Earlier, in an interview with Tuổi Trẻ Online, director Trịnh Đình Lê Minh predicted that the films with the greatest chances of winning awards this year are Red Rain, The Tunnel, Dogfight in the Sky and Mai. Each film demonstrates its own strengths.
Among the 16 films, 12 are produced by private studios and 4 by state-owned units. These four include: Echoes Across the Ocean, The Old Lady on the Run, Childhood Moon and Red Rain. Dogfight in the Sky stands out as the clearest example of state–private collaboration (produced by the People’s Public Security Cinema and Galaxy Studio).
Among the private productions, Hoan Khue Film Production Joint Stock Company has three films: The Four Avengers and Mai (both directed by Trấn Thành), and The Tunnel: Sunlight in the Darkness directed by Bùi Thạc Chuyên.
