The 6th season of the CJ Short Film Project is officially open for applications from now until July 20, presenting a valuable opportunity for young filmmakers to receive up to VND 1.5 billion in funding and support to attend international film festivals.

1. CJ Short Film Project Brings a Fresh Perspective to 2025

Co-hosted by CJ Cultural Foundation and CJ CGV Vietnam, the "CJ Short Film Project" returns for its sixth season. The program is accepting applications until July 20 to select the top five outstanding projects.

In addition to funding of up to VND 1.5 billion for the selected projects and full support for attending international film festivals, young directors will also benefit from equipment and post-production support, as well as advanced filmmaking workshops led by top film experts from South Korea and Vietnam.

The theme “Expand Your Frame, Shine Beyond” brings new creative energy to CJ Short Film Project Season 6.

Entering its sixth season with the inspiring theme “Expand Your Frame, Shine Beyond”, the CJ Short Film Project aspires to accompany young directors on a journey of exploring fresh perspectives, breaking creative boundaries, and turning each film into a vast cinematic canvas where talent radiates and rises gloriously on the global film map.

This year’s evaluation panel features the familiar faces from Season 5, including director Phan Dang Di, producer Tran Thi Bich Ngoc, director Trinh Dinh Le Minh, and director Tran Thanh Huy. Adding to this dynamic team for Season 6 is acclaimed filmmaker Charlie Nguyen, promising to bring new, multidimensional perspectives to the program.

The competition targets Vietnamese citizens aged 18 to 40, especially young, passionate filmmakers who are nurturing unique ideas and dreaming of bringing their visions to life. The program will accept submissions until July 20.

After the Application Round, the Pitching Round for the Top 10 selected projects is scheduled to take place on August 6.

Application dossier includes: A completed registration form; A detailed synopsis (for a film no longer than 30 minutes, not exceeding 5 A4 pages); A production plan for the proposed short film; And one short or feature film (directed or written by the applicant) that was completed within the last three years.

2. Dedicated to the Mission of Elevating Vietnamese Cinema to the International Stage

Over the course of five seasons, the CJ Short Film Project has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing Vietnamese cinema, helping promising young directors achieve remarkable success at prestigious international film festivals.

Outstanding examples include: Director Phạm Thiên Ân, who won the Camera D’Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival for Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell (developed from his short film in Season 1); Director Phạm Ngọc Lân (Season 1 participant), who received the Best Debut Feature Film award at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival for Cu Li Never Cries; And Director Dương Diệu Linh, who earned both the Best Film and Most Creative Film awards at the 2024 Venice Film Festival for Rain on the Butterfly Wings.

CGV Vietnam served as the domestic distributor for all three internationally acclaimed films, bringing these globally recognized Vietnamese works to local audiences.

Many other short films supported by the CJ Short Film Project have also been selected and honored at over 50 of the world’s leading film festivals. Notable examples include: A Good Site by director Phạm Ngọc Lân (Season 1), which was selected to compete at the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival (Germany); Stay Awake, Be Ready by director Phạm Thiên Ân (Season 1), which won the Illy Prize at the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival (France); Live in Cloud – Cuckoo Land by directors Vũ Minh Nghĩa and Phạm Hoàng Minh Thy (Season 2), which was shortlisted as one of 12 films competing in the Orizzonti Short category at the 2020 Venice Film Festival.
